About Us

Regional Centre for Forestry and Rural Development (REFORD) is a non-government, non-profit organization registered in Skopje, North Macedonia in 2010.

REFORD is aiming to contribute to rural development by providing support to rural communities in their efforts to use natural resources in a sustainable way, mainly by:
• Sharing new technologies, experiences and working methods;
• Increasing and strengthen the awareness, social and economic power of the rural population;
• Capacity building to local organizations and institutions in the region;
• Cooperation and networking with similar organizations, individuals, donors and institutions in order to achieve its mission and goals.
REFORD’s mission is: Achieving a wider social interest in supporting rural development through sustainable natural resource management

In addition to other goals, REFORD also aims to provide support in the networking of the private forest owners in the Balkans, through its Platform for cooperation “Balkan Network” and it will do so as long as it has adequate resources and support from the national associations of private forests in the region.

Currently, there are 6 national organizations of forest owners from the Balkans participating in the “Balkan Network”: Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Bulgaria.

MEMBERSHIP AND COOPERATION

REFORD has established cooperation with several organizations:

• Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)
• Program for Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) Council
• Connecting Natural Values & People (CNVP) Foundation
• Confederation of European Forest Owners (CEPF)

REFORD is taking part in the Assembly of The Council for Sustainable Forest Management in Macedonia (PEFC authorized body for North Macedonia).

Organizational structure

Assembly is the highest authority that manages organization.

The President is the legal representative of the organization and is elected by the Assembly.

The Supervisory Board controls material and finance performance of organization and provides recommendations for better performance of the organization.

Platform for cooperation
“Balkan Network”

The Balkan Network is a platform for cooperation within REFORD. This network provides opportunity for sharing of expertise and good practices in sustainable forest management, land use, rural development and climate changes from the Balkan region. This platform is a result of long-standing cooperation between the National Associations of Private Forest Owners from the Balkan region and REFORD.

The members of the Balkan Network participate in steering of REFORD by nomination of their representatives in the Assembly and Supervisory Board.

Currently, there are 6 members of the Balkan Network and they are all National Associations of Private Forest Owners in Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Hercegovina, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Bulgaria.

Become A Member

The membership in the Balkan Network is of associative character and is open for other organizations, public and private institutions who dedicate their work to sustainable development of rural communities, protection of nature and environment and sustainable management of natural resources in the region and worldwide.

The members of the Balkan Network actively participate in the implementation and realization of the programme goals of the association, especially in the part regarding to networking, cooperation and sharing of experiences and at the same time contribute to the development and popularity of the organization.

Benefits from the membership in the REFORD’s Balkan Network are availability of large network of experts, which give opportunity of sharing of experiences, knowledge and good practices in the area of sustainable forest management, land management, climate change and rural development.
