Successful Completion of NbS Training Workshop Series under EU Co-funded Project

June 15, 2026

The EU co-funded project “Enhancing Technical and Vocational Skills for Implementing Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) to Combat Land Degradation” has successfully completed its series of training workshops focused on Nature-Based Solutions (NbS). Between April and June 2026, a total of six workshops were delivered, bringing together trainers, researchers, public officials, and practitioners engaged in land degradation and ecosystem restoration.

The workshop series was designed to strengthen technical and vocational capacities by providing a comprehensive overview of land degradation in terrestrial ecosystems, its impacts, and practical approaches for addressing it through Nature-Based Solutions.

Throughout the program, each module contributed specific knowledge and skills essential for future trainers:

The third workshop, delivered by Mixtura Ambiental, focused on soft skills for effective teaching. This module aimed to support trainers in the dissemination of knowledge in their future work with professionals, students, and farmers, enhancing communication and facilitation skills.

The fourth workshop, led by Kastamonu University, covered the foundations of education and adult learning, instructional design strategies, and methods for measurement and evaluation. It further explored digital learning strategies and artificial intelligence, including digital learning ecosystems, learning management systems, interactive tools, and synchronous and asynchronous learning approaches. This module strengthened trainers’ capacity to deliver high-quality, modern training programs.

The fifth workshop, prepared by ERI, focused on Nature-Based Solutions for addressing land degradation. It provided both theoretical and practical insights, including key NbS definitions and policy frameworks, the eight criteria for NbS compliance, practical examples addressing erosion and land degradation, and a five-step operational checklist for project planning and evaluation.

The final workshop, held on 1 June, was organized by the General Directorate of Combating Desertification and Erosion. It addressed participatory methods as a key tool in policy development and project implementation, emphasizing inclusive approaches in environmental governance.

With the completion of the workshop series, participating trainers are now better equipped with both theoretical knowledge and practical tools to design and implement effective Nature-Based Solutions for combating land degradation. The initiative represents a significant step toward strengthening institutional capacity, promoting sustainable land management, and supporting ecosystem restoration across participating regions.
